Student Health Insurance
All students enrolled for one or more hours of graded credit at the University of Denver are required to carry adequate health insurance coverage. Students are required to participate in the DU Student Health Insurance Plan or provide proof of other adequate health insurance coverage. Adequate health insurance is defined as having at least a $500,000 aggregate lifetime maximum per condition or per insured, has a prescription benefit, includes medical and mental health benefits, and has co-payments and out of pocket maximums the student can afford. Students are required to participate in the DU Student Health Insurance Plan or provide proof of other adequate health insurance coverage. Further details of this requirement and eligibility for the Plan are published in the Student Health Insurance Plan Brochure.
Required SHIP Participation
Students enrolled in six or more hours (8 for Law Students) of graded credit are assessed the Student Health Insurance Plan. The amount of the premium will be assessed on your tuition bill. Students are responsible for verifying all charges on their tuition bill. Students enrolled in less than six hours of graded credit (8 for Law Students) must enroll for these benefits at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center before posted deadlines. Students entering during the Winter & Summer terms are not automatically assessed the SHIP. These students need to contact the HCC to enroll. Dependent/family coverage is also available for purchase by students enrolled in the SHIP.
You must purchase the DU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) if you do not already have health insurance through another source. Students will automatically be enrolled in the SHIP each Fall and Spring. The 2011-2012 rate for the SHIP is $1,210 for each coverage period ($2,420 per year). The charge will be on your tuition bill. You may either accept or waive SHIP coverage. If you choose to wave the SHIP, you will be required to show proof of adequate insurance coverage.
