Where can I go to get health care on campus?

The Health and Counseling Center is located in the Daniel L. Ritchie Sports and Wellness Center, 3rd Floor, North Side, 2240 East Buchtel Boulevard. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8am-5pm, and on Tuesday we are open 9am-5pm.

What kind of care does the Health and Counseling Center provide?

The Health and Counseling Center is an outpatient facility which provides a wide range of medical and mental health services, including preventive medicine and laboratory procedures. It is staffed by physicians, physician assistants, psychologists, registered nurses, and other health care professionals.

The Health and Counseling Center also offers specialty care in women's health, dermatology, and psychiatry, and we can refer you to specialists in the community for other medical or surgical needs.

Where can I go in a true emergency?

When you have a medical problem or injury that is a true emergency (e.g. heart attack, severe bleeding, severe accident, etc.), you should call 911 or go to a hospital emergency room. The hospital closest to the University of Denver campus is Porter Adventist Hospital at 2525 South Downing Street. Of course, here in the United States, the emergency room tends to be very expensive care and should be used carefully. Ambulance and emergency room services are at your expense unless your insurance covers them.

How do I pay for medical and mental health care in the United States?

The Health and Counseling Fee covers many medical and mental health services at the Health and Counseling Center. If you do not have your own health insurance, the University also offers an excellent Student Health Insurance Plan. More information is provided in this website under Student Health Insurance Plan. You may also contact the Insurance Coordinator at the Health and Counseling Center by calling 303.871.4136 during business hours. You should be aware that most medical offices will ask for proof of insurance or payment at the time of visit, which is why insurance is so important to access medical care.

Where do I go for care when the Health and Counseling Center is closed?

You can reach the on-call physician by dialing 303.871.2205 and following the directions. The physician can give you advice about your medical problem or arrange for you to be seen if your problem requires immediate evaluation. All fees incurred outside the Health and Counseling Center are at your own expense or billed to your insurance if applicable.

For urgent mental health care when the Health and Counseling Center is closed, call Campus Safety at 303-871-3000 and ask to speak to the counselor on call.
