Q. I run 3-4 miles on a regular basis and lately my knee has been really sore after my runs. What could be causing it and what signs should I look for before I go see a doctor?
Pain in the knees with running can occur from simple things such as poor stretching prior to exercise, to poor running shoes, to poor running mechanics. It can also be a symptom of things more complicated like cartilage wear & tear, developing tendonitis, or overuse injury.
If increasing ones pre-routine stretching, trying a course of Ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin for 3 days, icing the knee, or changing running shoes does not relieve the symptoms, one should be seen by their medical provider for evaluation.
