About the topic
Disordered eating and body image issues are commonly reported among college students. These issues are caused by a variety of factors including societal pressures, the media, family of origin issues, as well as biological predisposition. Disordered eating also causes a variety of issues for the individual psychological distress, medical concerns, and relational difficulties. As a result, the most prudent course of action for treating these issues is a multidisciplinary team approach. The multidisciplinary team includes mental health providers, medical providers, and nutritional experts. This presentation will discuss the benefits of using a team approach as well as the challenges of implementing this strategy in the college environment.
