About the topicThe roles of RN's in college health care can vary widely. RN's are versatile and can fill many needs in a college health center. This will be a panel discussion on ways that different RN's have expanded their positions in college health settings. Areas of expanded practice include nurses who have become public health experts working with local health agencies to ensure the campus has the appropriate information and response to public health issues such as tuberculosis, norovirus, pertussis, and influenza. Some nurses work in travel clinics where they educate, give vaccinations and provide prescriptions for travelers using established protocols. Women's clinics are also utilizing RN's to refill birth control prescriptions and do STD and sexual health counseling. Specializing in areas of practice can be very rewarding for RN's in these roles. RN's are encouraged to come join this panel discussion. The nurse panel will share ways that they have expanded their roles in college health and it is hoped that others will share different ways that their health centers are utilizing RN's. |
