Economics Undergraduate Program at the

 University of Denver!

Thank you for your interest in our Undergraduate Program. If you would like more information or have further questions, please contact us by e-mail at econ04@du.edu, or by phone at (303) 871-2685.

Students who are already on campus and are interested in majoring in Economics should talk with the Economics faculty representative during Discoveries week or come by the departmental office in Sturm Hall, Room 246. We can provide you with printed information about the Economics major and arrange for you to discuss the Economics program with a professor. Of course, you should also feel free to email any of us with your questions. If you just want to explore what Economics has to offer you or to take some Economics courses as part of your undergraduate program, you should also talk with one of our representatives at Discoveries or come by the department to see a professor.

Please choose from the following options:

Students can major in Economics whether they are in the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences or in the Daniels College of Business (DCB). An Economics major can take the course under either number, but if it is taken as SOCS 1310, it will not count as part of the 41 hours necessary for the Economics major, although it will count towards the Social Science Core requirement. Students in the Daniels College of Business (DCB) who are not Economics majors, however, cannot take the course as SOCS 1310 and earn Social Science Core credit for it. They are required to take the course as ECON 1020 at some point during their DU career to fulfill DCB Economics requirements.

*If you take ECON 2020 & ECON 2030, you can take ECON 2050 as an elective, but you cannot take ECON 3000. If you take ECON 3000, you cannot take ECON 2020 or ECON 2030.

Double-Majoring

A lot of Economics majors have a second major, e.g., Economics/History, Economics/PoliticalScience, Economics/International Studies, Economics/Finance, etc. Please talk to any faculty member in the Economics Department if you have questions regarding a double-major that includes Economics.

Students Transferring Economics Courses to DU

Transfer students who have received credit for Introductory Economics (the equivalent of ECON 1020 and ECON 1030) at other schools can take courses for which ECON 1030 is listed as a pre-requisite. Transfer students who have received credit for the equivalent of one of these two courses can take the other one. The Economics faculty representatives at Discoveries Week or the Economics Department Chair can grant transfer credit for particular DU Economics courses. You will need to show documentation of the transfer credit the University has approved for you and a description of the Economics courses you took elsewhere.
