Career highlights: Dr. Martin joins us from Oakland County, Michigan, where she acquired degrees from Michigan State University, State University of Iowa, Oakland University, and Wayne State University. She began her career in education nearly 33 years ago as a Kindergarten teacher in Pontiac Public Schools and over the course of her career was an upper elementary teacher, elementary principal, curriculum director, and assistant superintendent in various Detroit metropolitan school districts. She retired from public education after 7 years as Superintendent of Ferndale Public Schools in order to serve the Michigan Department of Education designing statewide K-12 Essential Standards and Rubrics for Teaching and Learning. Over the past few years she also taught Educational Leadership and Interaction in the Classroom at Oakland University's undergraduate and graduate levels.
