New book published by two MCE faculty members

Authors Cathy Lines, PhD, Current MCE Adjunct Professor and Former Mental Health Coordinator for the Cherry Creek School District; Gloria E. Miller, PhD, Current MCE Professor (on sabbatical to devote more time to FSP research) and former Director of the Child, Family, and School Psychology Program; and Amanda Arthur-Stanley, PhD, Current School Psychologist in the Cherry Creek School District recently published The Power of Family-School Partnering (FSP): A Practical Guide for School Mental Health Professionals and Educators, NY, NY: Routledge 2010.

Family-school partnering (FSP) is a multi-dimensional process in which schools, families, and communities engage in shared actions to ensure a child's academic, social, and emotional success. This text offers a practical guide on how such partnering can be strategically implemented in all levels of schooling. Using a multi-tiered framework, these authors stress the legal, theoretical, and research rationale for such partnering and provide practical resources that enable schools and families to become integral partners in the educational process. Staff and family roles and responsibilities, a data-driven planning process for sustainable system change, evidence-based strategies, and examples of such practices in action are described. An accompanying CD is included that provides sample forms, training materials, and data collection tools that readers can use or adapt to their own needs to efficiently implement family-school partnering in their schools.
