National Experts in Collaborative Effort with Morgridge College of Education

Nationally-renowned experts on urban teacher preparation programs assembled in Denver March 9-10 to explore potential relationships between the University of Denver and local urban school districts. The conference was sponsored by the Boettcher Foundation, which funds the Boettcher Teachers Program. The group of experts, known as the Urban Teacher Residency Advisory Group, includes Dwight Allen (Old Dominion University), James Comer (Yale University), Marilyn Cochran-Smith (Boston College), Linda Darling-Hammond (Stanford University), Mary Dilworth (National Board of Professional Teaching Standards), Don Feinstein (Academy for Urban School Leadership - Chicago), Etta Hollins (University of Southern California), Kenneth Howey (University of Cincinnati), Arthur Levine (Woodrow Wilson Foundation), Anthony Petrosky (University of Pittsburgh), Francisco Rios (University of Wyoming),  Jesse Solomon (Boston Teacher Residency Program), Brad Jupp (Denver Public Schools), and Ken Turner (Colorado Department of Education).  Also in attendance were Chancellor Coombe, Provost Kvistad, Vice Provost Jim Moran, Morgridge College of Education Dean Ginger Maloney, representatives of local foundations and MCE faculty Rex Brown, Paul Michalec, Maria Salazar and Kent Seidel.

As the group continues its exploration of innovative urban teacher preparation programs, it will issue recommendations for potential initiatives by the MCE.  Stay tuned!
