Dual Undergradaute/Graduate Degree Overview
During the first two years of the Dual Undergraduate/Graduate Teaching Degree Program, students complete DU Foundation and Core requirements, as well as major and minor requirements, if applicable. Advising appointments should be made will both an undergradaute advisor and with an MCE advisor.
In the third year, students continue undergraduate requirements, as well as major and minor requirements. Service-learning coursework through the MCE begins. The experience is set in urban schools with a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse students for a total of 8 credit hours. Hours may count toward 100 hours of supervised experience required for admission to the program. The application is submitted for dual degree program, including completion of all admissions exams during this third year.
The fourth year is based on a 40 credit-hour course sequence in the Teacher Education Program and includes 13 weeks of student teaching.
In the fifth year, students take12 credit hours of advanced graduate coursework in education and 24 credit hours of additional coursework in education or the time can be used to complete and undergraduate requirements.
By enrolling in the Dual Undergraduate/Graduate Degree Program, the University of Denver applies 15 credit hours to both the undergraduate and MA degrees. This reduces the degree requirements thus saving students both time and money.
