Educational Administration FAQs

What is WSEPP?
WSEPP is the Weekend School Executive Preparation Program, the Principal Preparation Program in the Morgridge College of Education. The cohort program is taught by DU faculty and clinical professionals from local school districts on weekends and evenings.  Corhorts are currently in session on the DU campus, on-site in Aurora, DPS and Adams Five-Star

Can credits from the Principal Licensure Programs be counted toward other degrees in Educational Administration ?
If you have completed any of the Educational Administration certificate programs for principal licensure you may, under certain circumstances, apply 30 of those credits toward either the Master's or PhD in Educational Administration.

Are there scholarships or grants available for the Educational Administration programs?
All of the Educational Administration certificate, Masters and Doctoral programs are offered at one-half of DU's current rate of tuition. The Ellie Katz Scholarship is also available to qualified students. Application directions are posted with the MCE Financial Aid information.

Am I required to be a licensed teacher to apply to the Educational Administration programs?
No, but the State of Colorado requires that all applicants for the Type D principal's license have held a Colorado professional educator's license for a minimum of three years, in addition to completing an approved licensure program.

What is considered for acceptance to your program?
The Educational Administration programs take a "whole person" philosophy when accepting students. Thus, in addition to looking at GRE scores (PhD applicants only), the admissions committee also examines your transcripts, letters of recommendation, statement of goals, and any prior experience that is applicable to the program to which application is being made.

If I have a non-education degree will that limit my chances for acceptance?
Perhaps.  If the cohort you are applying for is not at capacity, and the admissions committee considers the application a strong one, you could be accepted even if your previous degree is not in education. However, because all of the Educational Administration programs are designed to prepare qualified education professionals to become principals licensed by the state of Colorado, applications from those individuals who are currently teaching will be given priority.

If I do not have GRE scores, can I submit results from another test?
GRE scores are required for admission to the doctoral program in Educational Administration. Applicants to the certificate or master's program are not required to submit test scores.  Official scores must be within the last five years from the date of application. No other test results are accepted.

From whom should I get letters of recommendation?
For highest consideration, letters of recommendation should be written by professionals in the field of education who are currently supervising you. If you are a recent graduate, recommendation letters from former professors that speak to your academic abilities and character may be used. If you have several years of work experience, you may use letters of recommendation from professionals who have observed your leadership abilities in a school setting.

May I use a recommendation letter from a former application?
No. For highest consideration, letters of recommendation should be written by professionals in the field of education who are supervising you in your current position.

Is an interview required?
Interviews are required for all Master's, Ritchie, and APSLA applicants.

How many students will you be accepting and do you have an estimate of how many people will be applying?
The number of applications received varies from year to year and program to program. Our programs are based on a cohort model and so each cohort must have at least 15 participants. Cohorts are rarely allowed to exceed 25 students.
