Higher Education Program
The Higher Education program is designed to prepare students who are capable of analyzing and managing the current challenges in post-secondary education, especially in student-related areas. Our students are women and men who are seeking to expand their knowledge and experience of higher education. We prepare tomorrow's university and college administrators at the masters and doctoral level to improve post-secondary education for a diverse range of students. In this program, students learn from faculty and classmates who are directly engaged in cutting-edge scholarship, administrative practices and student affairs activities in the higher education sector. We also offer one of the nation's few degree concentrations in leadership and organizational change (LOCP).
This generalist program enables graduate learners:
- to explore the academic and practitioner-oriented issues related to student life.
- to devise research projects through course work papers and related field activities.
- to expand their experiential awareness through practicum and internship activities in administration and teaching, student life, college admissions and academic counseling, adult studies settings, student retention, and sports administration.
The Student Experience
As students in the Higher Education Program engage in the exchange of ideas, theoretical
approaches become more clearly related with the formal curriculum, research, and its
application in field settings. You will learn from faculty and classmates who are at
the forefront of their field in scholarship, pedagogy, administrative practices and
development in the educational sector and beyond. This ongoing dialogue between faculty,
students and professionals in the field fosters a deeper understanding of post-secondary
education and contributes to its improvement. Through your chosen concentration of
study, research topics, and internships, the Higher Education program faculty will
encourage you to think about the opportunities and challenges awaiting you when you
engage as change agents for higher education and a better world.
The result is an experience enriched by research, teaching and learning, as well as
the formation of partnerships at the University of Denver, at the state, national,
and international levels. This work reflects our mission in the DU Higher Education
program: to pursue knowledge and develop leaders as reflective practitioners and
scholars who are committed to improving post-secondary education and enhancing social
equity.
