Student Openings for Financial Aid Positions
The Morgridge College of Education provides opportunities for graduate students to supplement other sources of income while in graduate study.
There are two kinds of financial aid available for graduate students: need-based aid and merit-based aid. All students must submit a Morgridge College of Education Application for Graduate Financial Aid for either type of financial aid. Currently we have openings for the Fall for both Graduate Assistantships and work-study positions.
Explanations of both types of aid are in the box below, followed by the current openings. [Link to current openings page inside COE site] E-mail each position's contact person for more information.
Graduate Assistantships
The purpose of the Graduate Assistantship (GA) is to aid students in their progress towards the graduate degree. A GA can be assigned to a teaching, research or administrative position. The positions listed below for the Morgridge College of Education are primarily administrative.
GA appointments are made on a full-time, half-time, or quarter-time basis. Graduate assistants are considered full-time when teaching one four-hour course per quarter, or otherwise working 20 hours per week as an assistant. Half-time assistants work 10 hours per week, and quarter-time assistants work five hours per week. A graduate student may not hold more than the equivalent of one full-time assistantship at any time in one or more departments.
GAs receive monthly stipends and tuition remission, the latter in the form of a tuition scholarship. Full-time assistants receive eight credit hours of tuition scholarship per quarter, half-time assistants receive four credit hours per quarter, and quarter-time assistants receive two credit hours per quarter. Tuition scholarships are paid as a dollar amount equal to the credit hours of tuition awarded. This tuition remission is in addition to a monthly stipend.
To be considered for a GA appointment, a student must:
- Be on regular status in a traditional degree program in the Morgridge College of Education.
- Have achieved and maintained excellent academic records (at least a "B" average).
