Non-profit and community-based organizations often turn to DU for technical assistance and student support. At the same time, faculty, staff and students rely on community organizations to maintain the University’s link to understanding issues and concerns outside DU.
By working together, DU and community partners are able to address each other’s needs and build viable, long-term relationships that are mutually beneficial.
At various times each academic year, the Center hosts activities designed to connect students with community partners. Service Learning Fairs involve 15-20 local non-profit organizations and typically attract 100-300 students.
An Experiential Opportunities Fair highlights opportunities for students to become involved in programs such as Teach for America, Colorado Youth Corps Association and the Peace Corps.
Our staff coordinates programs that empower youth and adults to create change by becoming more civically minded. Programs such as Public Achievement focus on K-12 youth to broaden their understanding of politics, democracy and citizenship through experience-based civic education.
If you are interested in recruiting an intern or posting an internship opportunity, please contact Ruth Prochnow at 303.871.4705 or rprochno@du.edu
“The DU service learning interns are the lifeblood of the Neighborhood
Center. Without them, the programs that we offer the adults and youth of
this community would not be possible. It is a fabulous learning experience
for all, and we, as a community, are very grateful.”
