A Message From the Associate Chair
Welcome to the Web site for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Denver. As you view the pages here, you will find that the department offers distinctive engineering programs focused on developing the knowledge and skills needed by engineering professionals to solve the problems and seize the opportunities of the 21st century.
We offer ABET accredited undergraduate degree programs in computer, electrical, mechanical and general engineering, with each program incorporating the other disciplines into all four years of study. All programs share a common freshman and sophomore curriculum that establishes the foundation for developing the integration skills that are one of the hallmarks of a DU engineering education. The common curriculum also allows students to defer the selection of a major until the start of their junior year, after they have gained familiarity with each of the disciplines.
Another highlight of DU engineering education is the opportunity for undergraduates to expand their learning through active participation in the faculty’s research labs. As in the classroom, students benefit from the individual attention they receive in the lab due to the department’s low student to faculty ratio. Other features of our program include an emphasis on developing teamwork and communication skills within the framework of a global perspective that prepares our graduates for the new realities of the workplace. If undergraduate students would like more preparation, we offer a joint five-year program with the Daniels College of Business that allows students to graduate with a simultaneous discipline-centered BS degree and a MBA degree. In addition, student groups related to professional societies provide opportunities for extracurricular activities, and the Denver metro area and nearby mountains provide exceptional recreational and cultural activities. It all adds up to a distinctive undergraduate experience.
In our graduate programs students attain research experience by working closely with exceptional faculty at the forefront of engineering innovation. We offer Master of Science (MS) degrees in each of the undergraduate disciplines, as well as in Materials Science and in our new degrees in Bioengineering and Mechatronics. In addition, we have created a MS in Engineering that accommodates students who wish to pursue creative multidisciplinary programs of study. The department also offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Engineering (with emphasis in computer, electrical or mechanical disciplines) and in Materials Science.
Thank you for your interest in DU’s Department of Engineering. I encourage you to look around our site and contact the department if you’d like any additional information. We look forward to hearing from you.
