Application Process

A completed application to any of the graduate programs consists of the following:

There are separate applications and instructions for domestic students (US citizens) and for international students.  Both applications are available on this Web site.  Application forms can also be obtained by mail from the engineering department.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and students are admitted for the fall, winter or spring quarters. However, graduate teaching assistantships (GTA) are awarded in April of each year to begin the following fall quarter. Students interested in competing for GTAs are therefore advised to submit their applications by February to ensure consideration for an appointment in September of a given year.

Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate fluency in English. A score of at least 550 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required (or a score of at least 213 in the computer version of the TOEFL, 80 on the Internet). If such students wish to apply for a graduate teaching assistant (GTA) position, they are required to  receive minimum scores of 570/230/88, with a 26 on the TOEFL internet speaking subsection.
