Welcome∞ The English Department at the University of Denver offers undergraduate and graduate programs that seek to prepare our students to be independent and enlightened readers and writers through the study of literature, creative writing, rhetoric and theory. Ours is a small and intimate department of 22 faculty, all of whom publish widely and seek to translate their learning into shared experiences by working closely with students in and out of the classroom. We offer undergraduate majors in literary studies, creative writing, and English education. We have offered graduate degrees in Literary Studies and Creative Writing for over 50 years and have the second oldest creative writing doctoral program in the U.S. More recently we have added a concentration in Rhetoric and Theory. We house Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Theatre Research and The Denver Quarterly, one of the country’s preeminent small literary magazines. We view the study of literature and writing as central to a liberal education that cultivates humanity and a knowledge of our shared cultures, that trains the mind to think clearly and argue persuasively, and that encourages ethical behavior. We also strongly support the University’s mission to promote ethnic, cultural and pedagogical diversity through our coursework. ∞ New books by Faculty: For more news and information, click here.
