NATURE: A
three person theater group from Petrolia, California performed at the
Cable Center on Wednesday, February 12. The event was sponsored in partnership
with Bridges to the Future and the DU Environmental Team. This talented
group discussed environmental concerns such as climate change and global
warming in an interesting and informative way.

Monthly GatheringsEach
month during the academic year, Faculty Associates and Partners of the
Institute are invited to an informal gathering. A member of the group
will be invited to speak about his/her work in the Environment and to
initiate conversations.
I2E2 Sponsored the
American Society for Environmental History,whom gave a presentation
entitled, "Producing and Consuming Natures" from March
20-23, 2002. The conference presented the various ways humans have historically
drawn nature into their lives -- through working and imagining, devouring
and debating, transforming and transporting it.
On February 27th, 2001 Prof. Ari Kelman, Department of History
spoke about his work on the effects of the Mississippi River on the
developmental history of New Orleans. He also discussed the upcoming
American Society for Environmental History conference to be held at
DU. [More info]
March 27th, 2001, Prof. Bob Amme, Department of Physics, spoke
about his work on tire recycling, fly ash as a building material and
the materials exchange.
The Environment
Institute hosted Secretary of State Madeleine Albright for a roundtable
discussion about China's admission to the World Trade Organization.
Faculty members Penelope Canan, Robert Dores, and Bruce Hutton were
joined by business leaders in Colorado's environmental technology sector,
representatives of the National Wildlife Federation and the Environmental
Defense Fund, and officials from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
