Examples of Specific Research Projects

"Think and Do Tank"
I2E2
participates in a "think and do" tank with the Intermodal Transportation Institute, the Institute for Ethics and Values, and the Center for Public Policy and Contemporary Issues, defining explaining and exploring the key issues of present-day life.

REE-The Renewable Energy Exploratorium Project
Begun in 1996–97, the Renewable Energy Exploratorium, Lumenluminis, was a cooperative educational project on renewable energy for the high school community in Colorado. It was designed to promote the use of renewable energy technologies imparting an understanding of
  • The role of energy in society
  • The environmental challenges associated with the use of fossil fuels
  • How renewable energies work
  • The importance of efficiency and energy savings
  • The connection between social values and technological options.
  • The options designed by Dr. Urbano fra Paleo from Galicia, Spain.
The REE Project hosted secondary school students to campus for laboratories on social science and the environment.

LSSE-The Laboratory for Social Science and the Environment
Implemented in 1997-98 with the Department of Sociology, this laboratory is a learning center representative of the efforts of I2E2 to reach across disciplines to involve faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates. The project partnered the Departments of Sociology and the Biological Sciences with Leaders in Learning/CASSI, a consortium of Sheridan, Englewood, and Denver Public Schools and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Laboratory modules included Energy Use & Renewable Energy Alternatives; Community Values and Public Choices; Sustainable Development, Environment and Population; and Women and the Environment.
