The Office of Title IX

Meet the Office

The Office of Title IX, in collaboration with University partners, works to build and sustain a safe, gender equitable environment for students, faculty, and staff in all aspects of educational programming and employment. The Office of Title IX is responsible for ensuring compliance with the University's anti-discrimination policies related to gender-based discrimination, harassment and violence, including sexual and relationship (domestic and dating) and dating violence and stalking, and promoting full compliance with all applicable federal, state and local discrimination laws.

Background

For the past two years, Eric has served the University as an Investigator in the Office of Equal Opportunity & Title IX. His role as an Investigator required him to review all claims of harassment and discrimination, in addition to advising students and employees on resources and reporting options through the Office of Equal Opportunity & Title IX. Prior to coming to DU, Eric was a Resident Director and Student Conduct Officer at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. He holds a B.A. from the University of Akron and a J.D. from Northern Kentucky University. The most rewarding aspect of his job is working to create a campus that welcomes people from all walks of life and thrives on the diversity of its community members.

David Anderson

BACKGROUND

David joined the Office of Equal Opportunity in 2017 as an investigator, and has a background in student conduct and diversity and inclusion. He holds a M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont and a B.A. in Political Science from Eastern Kentucky University. In his free time David loves to cook, travel, and play music.

BACKGROUND

Maria DeHowitt is an Investigator with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX and a licensed Colorado attorney. Before joining the University, Maria primarily practiced in the areas of employment-related discrimination and workers' compensation law. Through her work with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and Mountain States Employer's Council, Maria investigated hundreds of cases of Title VII discrimination, sexual harassment, and civil rights violations within the State of Colorado. Included in Maria's investigations were cases involving the rights of undocumented hospitality workers in the Vail Valley who were being sexually harassed, and transgender rights involving bathroom policies in schools and equal access in public accommodations. Maria holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law and received her Bachelor of Arts from UCLA. Prior to entering law school, Maria worked for several years in the investment banking, real estate, corporate, and non-profit sectors. She now brings her extensive legal and diverse professional experience to the University.
