Contracts and Authorized Signatories

DU employees are generally not allowed to sign contracts that in any way (financially or otherwise) obligate the university. Only authorized signatories (usually Directors or Budget Officers) are approved to sign contracts. Each department has its own signatories and it is important for employees to become familiar with them.

Before signing, authorized signatories are required to review any external contracts with the University Counsel office. This can be a lengthy process, so event planners should submit contracts to their unit's signatory as soon as possible.
