Meeting and Event Planning Guide

Parking: If visitor parking is needed, please call Parking Services at x13210 at least 10 business days before the event and request a Special Event Parking Form.

Departments have two options when arranging parking needs for event guests.

  1. Guests will be responsible for their own parking arrangements (park and pay in designated visitor lots or street parking),

  2. The department may pay for guest parking by pre-purchasing parking permits at a reduced rate for General and Visitor parking lots.  Click here to request parking permits for an event.

Each special event has its own unique characteristics; therefore it is imperative that departments holding large events on campus to contact Parking Services as soon as possible in order to properly manage the event.

Please remember, there is no free parking on campus and all vehicles without valid parking permits are subject to parking citations and the assessment of fines. Valet parking must be approved by the Parking Manager prior to making arrangements.

Where are special event parking permits valid?
Special Event parking permits are valid in all General (100 series) and Visitor (300 series) parking lots, excluding yellow domed meters (20 minute or 1-hour meters). Restricted parking lots E, F, H1, K, O, W, and Z become General lots after 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, if your event occurs in the evening or on a weekend these additional parking lots are available for parking. However, if your guest parks in a Restricted lot, which may or may not be gated, during the day they will be ticketed for not having a valid permit in a Restricted lot, which is a $30.00 to $90.00 fine. University of Denver parking rules and regulations are in effect at all times. Parking in driveways, walkways, fire lanes, unauthorized areas, or no parking zones is prohibited. Violators are subject to ticketing and towing. If your guest receives a ticket for a violation they will be responsible for the fine.

How does a special event parking permit work?
The organization that is requesting event permits must complete and return a “Special Event Parking Form” to Parking Services 10 days prior to the event. Parking Services will make and validate the parking permits requested then return them to the organization along with a map. The organization is responsible for distributing the permits to their guests as well as educating them on valid parking with their permit. Organizations may educate their guests by sending copies of maps with their permits, directing them to contact Parking Services (303-871-3210), or by visiting our website at www.du.edu/parking.

What if I ordered more permits than I used?
In the case that there are unused permits after the event, no more than 25 percent of the original permits ordered will be refunded. For example, if you ordered 400 permits, then you may not return more than 100 permits. Therefore, when ordering your event permits, you must attempt an accurate assessment of the expected permits that will be used for the event. Unused permits may be returned to Parking Services within seven business days for credit along with a Return Permit Form that will be provided when you contact our offices.

Can I charge guests for these parking permits?
Some organizations may choose to charge for parking to off set the cost of the permits. Depending on the circumstances of the event, organizations either include the fee into the cost of the event or have someone from the organization stand at specific lot taking money. Please Note: If you choose to charge at the entrance of a lot, DU permit holders still have priority to park in the lot and cannot be charged an additional fee. Further, you may NOT charge more than the original price of the permit.

  • The cost is $3.00 per permit, per day, plus a one-time $3.00 service fee per event. Additional fees may apply for special requests. Only 25 percent of the original amount of permits ordered may be returned for credit, therefore one must closely estimate the number of permits that will be used.
  • Parking Services will make the permits for the event. Departments will be responsible for distributing permits and maps to their guests.
  • Parking Services will assign guests to general and visitor parking lots. A parking service representative must be contacted to make arrangements for other parking lots. Note: possession of a permit DOES NOT ensure a parking space, but grants the privilege of parking when space is available. All campus parking is on a first- come, first served basis.
