Issues and insights neglected by mainstream media find voice on the independent radio program Alternative Radio, made in the US but broadcast world-wide. Host and creator David Barsamian interweaves performances by Kronos Quartet with his "town hall" style conversation with Diane Wilson. Diane, mother of five, fourth-generation fisherwoman, began her fight with giants of the petro-chemical industry in 1989 when she learned that her small Texas county had been named the most toxic place in America. Diane believes that "...putting your life at risk is where change happens." As a citizen operating at a grassroots level, Diane found that her detective work, hunger strikes and civil disobedience to protect the Gulf Coast earned her legal charges and death threats.
Kronos Quartet will curate the musical program, inspired by grassroots civic engagement, which might include music from cultures as diverse as Afghanistan, Argentina, China, Ethiopia, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Mexico, Nubia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Turkey, United States and Uzbekistan. 
Kronos will perform at the annual Chancellor's Dinner and work in residence with the University's Lamont School of Music for two days as part of its visit to Denver.
