Kayaking in Denver

Sure, Denver is home to a few couch potatoes, but even they can't resist the lure of year-round sunshine (300 days annually) and gorgeous settings.

That's why Denver has the nation's largest city park system, 90 golf courses and 650 miles of paved bike trails. So when you're up for an outdoor adventure, but don't want to leave the city limits, your options are plentiful. Here are just a few examples:

South Platte River

The confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek in downtown Denver provides the perfect spot for a kayaking in town—or for a stroll down the pedestrian paths flanking the waterway.

Washington Park

DU students consider Washington Park the ultimate backyard, and it's less than two miles from campus. With soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, duck ponds, jogging trails and gardens, it's Denver's oldest park—and a great place to catch some rays, toss a Frisbee or walk your dog.

Cherry Creek Bike Trail

The Cherry Creek Bike Trail starts at Confluence Park just east of downtown, snakes through the center of the city, and ends roughly 15 miles east at Cherry Creek Reservoir. Exits along the way drop you off at South Broadway and the Cherry Creek mall—just minutes from campus.
