Vantage Point: The Ritchie Center

Pioneer Hockey at Magness Arena

The 440,000-square-foot Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness is home to varsity athletics at DU. In addition to its fitness facilities, it houses the major arenas and gymnasiums where students gather to cheer the Pioneers.

Magness Arena features 6,200 seats for hockey and 7,200 seats for basketball. (Magness Arena has also played host to a WBC title fight and a pair of charity tennis matches.)

Hamilton Gymnasium is the home for Denver's volleyball and gymnastics programs. It also hosts a few basketball games each season. Designed primarily for varsity, intramural and recreation athletics, the gymnasium also serves community youth leagues. The gym seats 2,800.

The El Pomar Natatorium contains an Olympic-length pool with two 3-meter and two 1-meter springboards. The facility has permanent seating for 300 and room for additional temporary seating when necessary. It's one of the few Olympic-size pools in Colorado.

The Stapleton Tennis Pavilion has six top-quality outdoor courts for varsity competition and practice, plus grandstand seating for more than 300. The complex also houses varsity and community locker rooms, a pro shop, concession stands and coaches' offices.

The Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium opened in 2005 and accommodates about 2,000 people. Featuring locker rooms for men and women, a concession area, a viewing pavilion/conference room and a two-direction press box that also serves the soccer field to the south, it's the only stadium in the country only used for lacrosse.
