At the Daniels College of Business, every graduate program reflects the school's commitment to ethics and values-based leadership. Daniels is distinctive in having an academic Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies, as well as ethics scholars in functional areas. It also includes a School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, as well as a School of Real Estate and Construction Management, making it one of the most comprehensive colleges of business in the world. Today, schools leaders are expected to ensure that all students achieve, regardless of race, economic background or ability. In response to this shift, the Morgridge College of Education partnered with Denver Public Schools to create the Ritchie Program for School Leaders.
The Divisions of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences offer DU students several fields of study, including programs in the arts, languages, philosophy, religious studies, psychology, economics, anthropology and communications. Throughout the divisions, students learn to critically evaluate the vast array of often-contradictory information that bombards us each day, explore and reflect on human interactions and artistic creations, express themselves creatively and effectively, and adapt their creative skills to a constantly changing environment. In the Divisions of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, students have the latest technology at their fingertips for exploration in a number of scientific fields, including geography, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, physics and astronomy. Here, faculty, researchers and instructors provide a cutting-edge, stimulating environment for tomorrow's scientists. When Denver enacted a new law against panhandling, Megan Gall decided to test it with new technology.
At the Graduate School of International Studies, a new "GSIS in Washington Program" combines course work and internships to provide students close interaction with policy officials and experts in trade, investment, economic development, conflict resolution, transitional justice and democratization. The school also has developed a master's-level international security program that provides expertise in strategy and arms control, homeland security, regional security, the changing nature of warfare and the process through which governments implement national security policies. The Graduate School of Professional Psychology has offered a PsyD degree that has been accredited by APA since 1979. GSPP also offers an MA in forensic psychology and has developed a new master of arts degree in international disaster psychology, which became available in fall 2005. This cutting-edge program trains mental health clinicians to address the psychological and psychosocial needs of international communities adversely affected by wars, political violence, natural disasters and the AIDS epidemic. One of the first of its kind, our Master of Science in Business Intelligence is designed by leaders in the field.
The Graduate School of Social Work offers the master of social work (MSW) and innovative certificate programs in couples and family therapy, social work with Latinos/as, trauma response and recovery, and animal-assisted social work. The school also offers a theory- and research-oriented PhD program, one of the oldest social work doctoral programs in the nation. A recent multimillion dollar renovation and expansion nearly doubled the school's space and includes two clinical practice suites. Back to top
The Graduate Tax Program's tradition of excellence is demonstrated each year by student success in the national tax challenge competition, recently renamed the Deloitte & Touche Case Study Competition. DU students have dominated the competition over the 11 years of its existence, placing first in the nation in 2001, 2000, 1997, 1995 and 1992 and finishing in the top three a number of other times. By enrolling in the Street Law class, Sturm College of Law students spend a semester teaching a number of law-related subjects in a variety of settings, including prisons.
The Morgridge College of Education is committed to being a force for positive change in Colorado's education, mental health and information services and systems. The college's graduate students are actively engaged in numerous community-based projects led by faculty members who provide real-world learning experiences for students, as well as direct benefits to neighborhood schools, libraries and nonprofit agencies. The School of Engineering and Computer Science has established distinctive cross-disciplinary degree programs with a strong focus on technological innovation. Degrees include mechatronics systems engineering (a synergistic integration of electronics, mechanical and software engineering); bioengineering; bioinformatics; and animation and creative games (a marriage of art, digital media and computer science). The Sturm College of Law now requires all entering JD students to perform a minimum of 50 hours of supervised, uncompensated, law-related public service work at some point during their law school careers. The college recently moved into a new environment-friendly complex-making it the nation's first law school to earn certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Back to top
