Penrose Library Loans Thousands of Movies for Free

Penrose Library has almost 1,000 feature films available on DVD and an additional 5,600 movies on VHS. These are all films made for movie theaters—think of major motion pictures like Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, Gangs of New York,  and Top Gun.

Finding a flick

You can search for movies in the Peak catalog just like you search for books. Enter the movie's title under "Title," or an actor or director's name under "Author."

library

DU's Penrose Library offers more than 6,000 movie titles available to all students.

Or, if you'd rather search by genre, go to the library's Films by Genre listing. It's accessible from the library's homepage, under the "Research Guide" link. (Don't worry about the "under construction" warning. That's there because new titles are constantly being added to the list.)

Looking for culture

Literary movie lovers can search for film adaptations of works by authors like Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and William Shakespeare. And foreign films are available in Chinese, French, Russian and other languages.

If you can't find the movie you're looking for, try using Prospector—a database that searches local libraries. With your DU ID number, you can request movies from other libraries and have them sent to Penrose for pickup.

If the movie you're looking for is in Penrose's collection, you can request it at the main circulation desk.

Whatever film you choose, you can't go wrong—because it's free!
