April 3, 5, 12; June 22
(March 11, 2014) DU's Office of Emergency Preparedness would like to share this free, local CERT with the DU community.
What would you do if an emergency or disaster hit close to home or work?
This emergency/disaster preparedness and response training (FEMA course IS-317) teaches you how to plan for an emergency and trains you in basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and emergency/disaster medical operations. At the completion of this training, you are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in your community.
When an emergency/disaster hits, we can't always depend on professional responders to be immediately available. We would like to have our communities in Lakewood trained and educated so that they can sustain themselves in the event first responders are not immediately available during a large-scale emergency/disaster.
This training is open to all individuals and groups. We will accept up to 40 participants.
Classes will be held:
- April 3, 6-9 p.m.
- April 5, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
- April 12, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
- Class exercise will be June 22, location TBD
You must attend all class sessions (three days) and the exercise in order to complete the course.
Classes will be held at the Employee Relations Training Room, 480 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colo. 80226.
The training is provided at no cost to participants.
Sponsored by: City of Lakewood Office of Emergency Management, Denver's Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security [OEMHS, Denver Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Colorado North Central Region]
