Communicating with non-native speakers of English

Tuesday, May 27, 11:30 a.m. – International House dining room
If your day-to-day duties involve interacting with those who are non-native speakers of English, this session will provide helpful suggestions for communicating more effectively. The session will run 50 minutes, followed by a short tour of the I-House for those interested.

Performance documentation: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

When managing employees, if it isn't written down, it didn't happen – whether good or bad. Effective documentation is critical to employee development, communication of expectations, recognition, in discipline/termination situations and even unemployment. This interactive session will cover how good documentation can help managers address performance problems in a more confident and effective manner.

5 Languages of Workplace Appreciation

What if you could say or do just the right thing guaranteed to make a colleague feel appreciated? The secret is learning the right Appreciation Language®! As developed by Dr. Gary Chapman and Paul White, the Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace® has been adapted to the workplace setting from the original Five Love Languages® concept. This concept helps supervisors and peers effectively communicate appreciation and encouragement in the workplace, resulting in higher levels of job satisfaction, healthier relationships and employees, and decreased cases of burnout.

Supervisor Core Competencies Series – ONE DAY

Wednesday, June 18, 8:15 a.m.-4:15 p.m. – Anderson Academic Commons, The Loft
The complete supervisor core competencies series will be offered in one day for those unable to attend the four-week series or who need to make up one or more sessions to obtain the professional development certificate.

  • Session 1: The Nature of Supervision and Communication, 8:15-10 a.m.
  • Session 2: Performance Management, Development and Engagement, 10:15 a.m.-noon
  • Session 3: Conflict Resolution and Difficult Conversations, 12:30-2 p.m.
  • Session 4: Legal Concerns, Considerations and DU Policies, 2:15-4:15 p.m.

Please RSVP to aimee.neu@du.edu for the session(s) you plan to attend. Session details and minimal pre-work will be sent ahead of time.

Total Rewards statements

(May 13, 2014) Benefited staff and faculty will soon receive in their home mailbox a comprehensive, individualized breakdown of their compensation and benefits package provided by the University. This is the second time the University has issued these Total Rewards statements to help benefited employees see the value of all forms of their compensation and benefits in one place. Benefited employees – don't miss your chance to make changes to your benefits plans

(May 6, 2014) Open enrollment, May 1-15, is your chance to make changes to your benefits plan, effective July 1, 2014. Remember that all elections and changes need to be made by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, May 15. These tools will help you through the process:
