New! Leading & Learning program

(Feb. 3, 2015) Human Resources is making exciting changes to its learning and development offerings! We are now in a period of assessing current programming and experimenting with new ideas, in parallel to the efforts of the DU strategic planning task force for “Professional Development for Faculty and Staff.” The task force report will be issued in the coming weeks, and it is anticipated that many of their recommendations and approved actions will become part of our Leading & Learning program. Some new initiatives we’ve already implemented include consulting services and the pilot “Fridays at Noon” video series. During this time of review, we’d like your feedback; please send comments and suggestions to greg.giesen@du.edu.

Performance management update

(Feb. 3, 2015) The goal setting feature of our new performance management system – SilkRoad Performance (WingSpan) – will be launched campuswide later this week to enable you to complete the goal setting process for the 2015 performance plan year. You will receive an email indicating when you’ll have access to the system, along with step-by-step instructions. Additionally, HR is hosting optional training sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday beginning Feb. 10 through the end of the month.

This new system incorporates features that came about from numerous focus groups and meetings with our community this past summer and fall. In many ways this system will be familiar in its overall process; it does not replace the importance of the day-to-day coaching and performance discussions between managers and their employees. This system focuses on assessment of the performance of job duties, competencies required for the job and goals set for the plan year.

Update on SilkRoad Performance

(Jan. 27, 2015) As communicated last week, Human Resources is implementing a new performance management system – SilkRoad Performance – for the current performance year. Testing is currently being done on the goal setting function, and it’s anticipated the new system will roll out to you next week. Stay tuned; HR will provide instructional materials via email and the HR website, and offer training on the system in a lab environment next month. In the meantime, whether you are a manager or an employee, you should now be thinking about and discussing what you and/or your team should be accomplishing this year so you are ready to record goals when the system is live.

New performance management system and goal setting

(Jan. 20, 2015) Based on employee feedback, Human Resources is implementing a new performance management system – SilkRoad Performance – for the current performance year. Stay tuned to your DU Digest and your HR liaison for more details and training tools as HR puts the finishing touches on the system. In the meantime, whether you are a manager or an employee, start thinking about and discussing what you and/or your team should be accomplishing this year so you are ready to record goals when the system is live. The goal section of SilkRoad Performance is modeled on an outcomes-based approach to performance management. A desire for this approach was raised by members of the DU community and has been strongly endorsed by senior leadership.

The existing performance management cycle will not be changed; final reviews are to be completed in early October. (Note: those departments with an off-cycle performance year will make this change later this year and will continue to use SuccessFactors to complete this performance year. These departments include Ricks, Fisher, Student Life, and Health & Counseling.)
