1864 Service Challenge

Denver Days @ DU

Denver Days @ DU a huge success!

(Aug. 12, 2014) Last week, more than 150 employees participated in Denver Days @ DU! Volunteers from across campus helped clean up the alleys in our neighborhood; we covered nearly six blocks in two days! Volunteers also came out to help transplant the fertile soil from the current Permaculture Garden to its new location. We collected items and letters for members of the military; care packages have already been sent to troops in Afghanistan. We also collected many items for GIVE Denver, the Food Bank of the Rockies and the Denver Dumb Friends League. University Advancement volunteered as a unit to paint the Washington Street Community Center. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to the drives; and a special recognition for Student Financial Services, who had 100 percent staff participation during Denver Days!

University Advancement gives back during Denver Days

(Aug. 12, 2014) University Advancement volunteered as a unit to give the Washington Street Community Center fresh paint during Denver Days last week. "It is so exciting to see everyone working together for a cause and organization that is outside the University that does such important work for our community," said Scott Lumpkin, vice chancellor for advancement. Mayor Michael Hancock even stopped by to lend a hand on Friday.

University of Denver participates in Denver Days

The University of Denver participated in Denver Days this August, in an expression of our commitment to the public good. Launched by Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Denver Days is a citywide effort to help neighbors get to know each other and get involved with their communities.

Here at DU, we provided a week of service opportunities, with an ice cream social at the end of the week for all volunteers! Volunteers are encouraged to add their hours to the 1864 Service Challenge, moving us toward the goal of a combined 186,400 hours of community service by the end of 2014.
