Updates on University news from the chancellor

University of Denver policy on marijuana

Jan. 29, 2014

To: University of Denver campus community

As you are likely aware, Amendment 64 which became law on Jan. 1, 2014, allows the sale and private consumption of recreational marijuana in Colorado for adults over the age of 21. However, in accordance with federal law, the University of Denver has long had a policy against drug use on campus and that policy does not change with Colorado's adoption of Amendment 64. DU continues to prohibit the possession, use and consumption of marijuana on University property.

Chancellor Coombe to step down in June

Jan. 17, 2014

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I'm sure that many of you sense, as do I, that the University stands at a significant point of transition and that we are about to enter an altogether new phase in our 150 year long history. Looking back, we've all been working hard since the dark days of the mid-1980's when we weathered that deep, existential financial crisis. So many good things have been accomplished since that time, and there is a great deal to be proud of. Much of this progress is due to the commitment of our wonderful faculty and staff, and to a consistent approach based on responsible management and an unwavering focus on the continuous growth of quality.

150 years of looking forward

Oct. 24, 2013

To the University of Denver campus community:

This week, we will welcome many of you to our Homecoming and Family Weekend and to our Alumni Symposium. These combined events provide the University community with great opportunities to gather together and feel the essence of the Pioneer spirit. Of special note this year will be the start of our University's sesquicentennial celebration, the 150th anniversary of our founding back in 1864.
