Active Minds, Active Bodies

DU is known for its active minds, but it's also known for its active bodies.

Men's Fitness magazine recently ranked DU in the top-25 fittest colleges in America. That's because the University actively promotes a healthy lifestyle for its students.

The Coors Fitness Center has top-of-the-line equipment, personal trainers, nutritionists and fitness classes. Students also can play in 30 club and 22 intramural sports, and DU is located near some of the city's best recreational opportunities and the great outdoors.

The DU Student Health and Counseling Center provides information about many health issues students may face. And our dining services provide all kinds of healthy alternatives to the stereotypical student diet.

But don't take our word for it. Here's what our students have to say:

Student biking across campus.

"I bike to class. It wakes me up, and I love riding by people who are walking on campus. Also, the gym has flexible hours, and the programs the school offers make being healthy easy."

Students working out.

"I love the gorgeous weather. Everyone is outside when it’s nice!"

Student bending over backwards in yoga pose.

"I take a yoga class here at the Ritchie Center, but I'm not that flexible! DU has the Ritchie Center and lots of clubs to help the students stay healthy."

Students playing frisbee.

"I come to the gym about five days a week, and people play volleyball or Frisbee outside the law school every day."

Student skateboarding across campus.

"The great weather and attitude of the people. Plus, we are near the mountains and the city—it's a good mix."

Students playing volleyball.

"It's just so gorgeous here at DU. Most of the time I'm outdoors with friends playing volleyball or going to Wash Park. And we have the greatest gym!"

Student playing tennis ball golf.

"When there isn't snow on the ground, I try to play a round [of golf] about once a week, but skiing and whitewater kayaking are my other passions that keep me in shape. I would say DU's proximity to the Rockies and number of sunny days make us a 'fitness college.'"

Student lifting weights.

"DU is a healthy campus because it’s Denver. There is a great outdoor environment, and everyone wants to be outside here. I use the gym, play club sports, tennis and squash. I am active at DU everyday—and that goes for a lot of the students here."
