Verification Worksheet

Students who apply for need-based and/or federal aid may be selected for a process called verification. If you are selected, you will be notified by our office of the additional documents needed to complete your file. Typically, selected students need to submit a verification worksheet, signed copies of tax returns, and W-2s.

The verification worksheets are divided between independent and dependent students. Please fill out the appropriate worksheet according to the guidelines regarding dependency status outlined below. Your signed tax returns (if you and/or family are filing tax returns) and all W-2s (regardless of filing status) must be attached to the verification worksheet at the time you submit it to the Office of Financial Aid. If you have questions about your dependency status, please contact the office to discuss your concerns with a Financial Aid Advisor.

Independent Students

You are considered an independent student if, for the 2008-2009 school year,:

• you will be a graduate or doctoral student or,
• you will be a first year or transfer traditional undergraduate who is 26 or older as of January 1st, 2008, or
• you are not a first year or transfer traditional undergraduate, but will be in an undergraduate program and
  • 24 or older as of January 1st, 2008 or,
  • married at the time you filled out the FAFSA or,
  • an orphan or ward of the court or,
  • have dependents or,
  • are a veteran

Dependent Students

If you do not meet any of the criteria listed for independent students, you are a dependent student. Parental information is required on the Verification Worksheet for Dependent Students regardless of your family situation.
