Colorado Residency Guidelines

Please visit the Office of the Registrar's website for information about submitting the Colorado Residency Form.

Students interested in state grants or scholarships are required to complete a Colorado Residency Form and have their residency status verified by the Office of the Registrar prior to receiving funds. All state funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and submission of a Colorado Residency Form does not guarantee that a student will be eligible for or receive state aid.

Students will be considered to have established residency when all of the pertinent requirements listed on the Colorado Residency Form have been met. Residency must be established one-year prior to the start of the academic year that the student is to receive the state aid. No exceptions will be made to this policy. Additionally:

  • Students who are aged 22 or older, married, enlisted military, legally emancipated, or a graduate student must have established residency themselves to be considered for state funding.
  • All other students will have their parents' information considered when verifying residency in Colorado.

The following types of funding require (among other things) that the student be a resident of the state of Colorado:

  • College Opportunity Fund (undergraduate award)
  • Colorado Student Grant (undergraduate award)
  • Colorado Graduate Grant
  • Colorado Undergraduate Merit
  • Colorado Work-Study
  • Colorado Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (CLEAP - undergraduate award)
  • Supplemental Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (SLEAP - undergraduate award)
