1. Apply for Admission to the The Women's College (if not already admitted.) We cannot process your financial aid application until you are officially admitted to the University. Please submit your application as soon as possible.
2. Apply for a US Department of Education PIN.
Students should apply for a PIN to use as an electronic signature on the FAFSA. If you (or your parents, if applicable) have a PIN from a previous year, please use that. If you have forgotten your PIN, the site listed above will help you retrieve it.
3. Complete the FAFSA*.
All students requesting need-based assistance should complete a FAFSA using their PIN from step 2. The school code for the University of Denver is 001371. If you have not yet filed your federal tax return (the 2007 return for the 2008-2009 school year, or 2006 return for the 2007-2008 school year), estimate your most recent income and taxes. DU's school year begins with the Fall term and ends with the Summer term.
4. Turn in all required documents to the University of Denver Office of Financial Aid.
You may be required to provide additional documentation to the Office of Financial Aid to complete your financial aid file. You will be contacted by email with instructions on what to send, where to send it, and applicable deadlines.
5. Accept your financial aid award.
Once the FAFSA is received, the Office of Financial Aid will email a notification that the award is ready to view and instructions on retreiving it. If other documents are required, but have not been received, this notification will be tentative and not finalized until the additional documents are received. Upon receipt of a final award notification, you can view your award information on MyWeb. Accept or decline the awards offered to you through the website. Please note: additional documents may be required after accepting award items online.
6. Complete the application process for Federal Stafford Loans (new loan borrowers at DU)
Stafford loans are included on award letters for eligible students. Students must accept the full amount, accept a reduced amount, or decline the loans on myWeb. After accepting a Stafford loan, first time borrowers at DU are required to complete an entrance counseling session and a Master Promissory Note (MPN.) The Office of Financial Aid uses StudentLoanOnline™ to manage these processes. More about the Stafford loan application process is on our Financing Options page.
7. Plan ahead and think long-term.
Depending upon when you complete the financial aid application process, funds may or may not be available to you at the time your tuition bill is due or other educational expenses arise; have some financial resources available to cover such expenses.
Also, you must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in your course of study to keep your financial aid. If you withdraw from classes or change your enrollment, your financial aid package may be affected.
Think about how much debt you would like to commit yourself to. You will eventually have to pay all of your loans back (with interest.) The Office of Financial Aid can provide you additional information on loans and debt management.
*Students who wish to fill out a paper copy of the FAFSA may do so. Paper copies are available at libraries, high schools, and universities.
