Financial Aid Timeline

January 1 - The FAFSA is available online.

April 1 - Priority deadline for continuing undergraduate students applying for need-based aid. The FAFSA and any required documents must be received by the Office of Financial Aid on or before April 1st to be considered for all sources of federal, state, and institutional funding.

Late May - Final award notifications will be emailed as available and will be viewable on MyWeb for returning undergraduate students who have submitted a FAFSA and any required supporting documents.

Special Circumstances
The University of Denver understands that circumstances occur which may affect a student’s financial aid eligibility. Families experiencing severe economic hardship due to documented changes in family financial strength may submit a Special Circumstances Request.  Reviews will not begin until the initial financial aid package has been determined.

Apply for Financial Aid

The priority deadline for applying for financial aid is April 1st for continuing undergraduate students. Because financial aid funds are limited, students who complete their financial aid applications in a timely manner are more likely to maximize financial aid resources. Funding for certain awards may not be available as time passes.

How to Apply

The Academic Year runs Fall through Summer.

1. Apply for a US Department of Education PIN*
Students and parents should both apply for their own PIN. If you or your parents have a PIN from a previous year, please use that. If you have forgotten your PIN, the site listed above will help you retrieve it.

2. Complete the FAFSA.*
All students requesting need-based assistance should complete a FAFSA using their PIN from step 2. The school code for the University of Denver is 001371. If you have not yet filed your federal tax return (2006 tax return for the 2007-2008 aid year, 2007 for the 2008-2009 aid year), estimate your most recent income and taxes.

Complete the CSS PROFILE.
(ONLY FOR 2ND YEAR TRADITIONAL UNDERGRADUATES)
All incoming 1st year and returning 2nd year undergraduates requesting institutional need-based aid should complete the CSS PROFILE application. It is only available online, at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com. DU’s CSS school code is 4842.

3. Turn in all required documents to the University of Denver Office of Financial Aid.
You may be required to provide additional documentation to the Office of Financial Aid to complete your financial aid file. You will be contacted by email with instructions on what to send, where to send it, and applicable deadlines.

4. Accept your financial aid award.
Once the FAFSA is received, the Office of Financial Aid will mail an award notification including detailed information about each component of your award. If other documents are required, but have not been received, this notification will be tentative and not finalized until the additional documents are received. Upon receipt of a final award notification, you can view your award information on MyWeb. Accept or decline the awards offered to you through the website. Please note: additional documents may be required after accepting award items online.

5. Plan ahead and think long-term.
Depending upon when you complete the financial aid application process, funds may or may not be available to you at the time your tuition bill is due or other educational expenses arise. Have some financial resources available to cover such expenses.

Also, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress in your course of study to keep your financial aid. If you withdraw from classes or change your enrollment, your financial aid package may be affected.

Think about how much debt you would like to commit yourself to. You will eventually have to pay all of your loans back (with interest.) The Office of Financial Aid can provide you additional information on loans and debt management.

*Students who wish to fill out a paper copy of the FAFSA may do so. Paper copies are available at libraries, high schools, and universities.
