When Seth Sauer was applying to college, he believed his most financially viable course of action would be to attain a degree as quickly as possible. As a high school student in Thornton, Colorado, he had taken several AP courses and exams, earning credits that would let him bypass several entry-level courses and graduate from college early. But he knew he would be cutting costs at the expense of his education.
With a passion for business management, especially international business, Seth dreamed of attending the University of Denver and studying at the top-rated Daniels College of Business. He wanted to study abroad and pack as much learning into four years of college as he could.
Through his financial aid package, Seth was awarded scholarships that allowed him to do just that. A recipient of the Art and Polly Mason Scholarship Fund, the Sandra and Jerry Dratler Endowed Scholarship Fund and as a Gold Scholar, Seth has been able to pursue concurrent degrees in accountancy and international business. He studied abroad in Bilbao, Spain, for a quarter, improving his Spanish skills and fueling his passion for international business. Scholarships created by generous donors to ASCEND: The Campaign for the University of Denver have also allowed Seth to continue his studies for an additional year and earn a master’s degree in accountancy.
“I am truly grateful that I was offered aid that is making my educational goals tangible,” said Seth. “Rather than continuously worrying about the financial viability of studying at DU, I have been given the opportunity to focus on my studies and work toward becoming the individual I desire to be.”
In addition to his studies, Seth is maximizing his time at the University. He is actively involved in the DU community, working as a Resident Assistant and volunteering with the Center for Community Engagement & Service Learning and Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting honors society. Seth plans to pursue certification as a public accountant (CPA) and aspires to become the CFO of an international company.
