Dual Degrees and Flexible Dual Degrees
Dual Degrees
The University of Denver offers unique dual degree opportunities for students to receive a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree OR two master’s-level degrees. Prospective undergraduate students can investigate the dual undergraduate-graduate degree or graduate students can apply for either the formal dual degree or the flexible dual degree. For additional information about any of these dual degree options, please consult the Graduate Student Handbook.
Formal Dual Degree
Formal dual degrees are available in several of the graduate divisions and the curriculum is already developed by the units and approved by the university. The student must separately apply, submit the application fee and receive admission to each graduate program. Students must turn in the Dual Degree Approval form within the first term of enrollment in their dual degree program in order to be verified as a formal dual degree participant. Please contact the college, school or department for details.
Flexible Dual Degree
Graduate students may propose any combination of two master’s degrees (or a master’s degree and a Juris Doctor degree) as a flexible dual degree program that makes sense for their academic and career preparation. The flexible dual degree program allows for a reduction in hours due to cross counting of only the elective courses and the program proposal must preserve the core courses required for each degree. The total number of credit hours required for the flexible dual degree program will vary depending on the original number of credit hours required for each degree. Typically, students seeking a flexible dual degree are already enrolled in one program when they decide to apply for the second program. Please note students must submit proposals for their flexible dual degrees by no later than the 4th quarter of enrollment in their first program (3rd semester if Law). Proposals received after this deadline will be rejected. For more information about flexible dual degrees, please go to the Graduate Student Handbook to view the full policy on flexible dual degrees and download the flexible dual degree instructions and forms.
