ADMISSIONS

How To Apply

*Please note: GSIS is no longer accepting PhD applications for the fall 2008 quarter. The fall 2009 application will be posted in August.

Each year, GSIS enrolls approximately 200 students in its MA programs and 3-4 students in the PhD program.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by the priority deadline for each entry quarter:

January 15- Summer and Fall quarters
October 15- Winter quarter

Applications are still being accepted for the summer and fall 2008 quarters

As admission is increasingly selective, applications received after the priority deadlines will be considered on a space available basis.

All Applicants

All applicants must submit the following documents:

1. Complete Application Form

Online Application (Apply on-line; $65 fee).

Or

Paper applications submitted via post or delivered in person (Download (PDF); $75 fee).

Checks must be drawn on a US bank and made payable to: "The University of Denver—GSIS.”  Please be sure to include applicant’s name on the check.

2. Two Sets of Transcripts

GSIS requires two official transcripts from any postsecondary institutions where two or more hours of course work were completed.

Official transcripts must be received directly from the institutions previously attended, in an official envelope bearing an official stamp across the envelope's seal. Official transcripts must demonstrate all degrees awarded and the dates the degrees were conferred. In instances where a student completes coursework but receives no degree from a particular institution, the University of Denver’s Registrar's Office still requires an official transcript from that institution.

Please note if the course numbers, credit hours, and grades from the study abroad school are posted on the degree transcript, then an additional study abroad transcript is not needed. However, if ALL of these items are not listed, then TWO official copies (including English translations when applicable) are required before the application may be considered complete.

3. Exam Scores

All applicants to GSIS master’s degree programs and the GSIS doctoral degree program are required to submit official Graduate Record Examination, (GRE) scores. This requirement does not apply to applicants to our mid-career programs (Master’s of Arts in Global Studies and Master’s of Arts in Homeland Security) and certificate programs (Global Health Affairs, Homeland Security, and Humanitarian Assistance).

GRE scores should be sent directly to GSIS (University code 4842, department code: 1901) from the Educational Testing Service, (ETS).

*Please note ETS usually takes between 4-6 weeks to get scores to schools; therefore we recommend that applicants should plan on requesting and/or taking the GRE more than a month prior to the application priority deadline.

Dual Degree Applicants Only

Applicants applying to the dual JD/MA program can elect to have their LSAT score submitted in lieu of the GRE requirement. Likewise, applicants to the dual MA/iMBA program can elect to have their GMAT score submitted in lieu of the GRE requirement.

Official LSAT scores must be sent to the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver, and applicants must request that these scores be forwarded to the GSIS Admissions and Financial Aid office.

Official GMAT scores must be sent to the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, institutional code 4842, and applicants must request that these scores be forwarded to the GSIS Admissions and Financial Aid office.

4. Three Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation must be sent in sealed envelopes with the recommender’s signature across the seal. Please click the following link for a printable Letter of Recommendation Form. However, recommenders are welcome to write their recommendations on letterhead in addition to or in place of the form.
