The Homeland Security degree program is proud to offer the MA in Homeland Security, which is the first degree program established in the United States focused on issues related to national security. It was created in 2002 as a degree program where students may explore issues related to US law and security within an atmosphere that is concerned with protecting our human rights. The degree program is pleased to offer a broad based approach to the issue of homeland security and to provide vibrant classrooms that allow for the merging of different viewpoints.

Security is the essence of international politics and remains a fundamental feature of teaching and research within the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. At least half of the permanent faculty, coupled with important senior scholars and international visiting professors at our institute, have taught courses on the topic throughout the 1990s and beyond. Our expertise is clearly marked by its breadth of focus and depth in analysis. We are linked to important policy makers in the U.S. security world: it is not insignificant that one of our doctoral graduates, Condoleezza Rice, currently serves as the U.S. National Security advisor, perhaps the highest government position in the security field in the country, and that Madeleine Albright, immediate past U.S. Secretary of State, is the daughter of Dr. Joseph Korbel, who founded the Josef Korbel School of International Studies (formerly the Graduate School of International Studies) as a formal institute almost forty years ago.
