The Josef Korbel School of International Studies prepares its students for leadership roles in a variety of careers by offering several distinct areas of study.
Degrees from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies are interdisciplinary programs combining political science, international law, political economy, anthropology, history, psychology, public policy, and management skills. This multifaceted approach prepares students to shape creative responses to current challenges by arming them with comparative and critical perspectives, historical analogies, theoretical frameworks for ordering complex data, and the technical skills needed to succeed.
In addition to offering a PhD in International Studies, the Josef Korbel School of International Studies offers six MA degrees in specific topical areas. For professionals in pursuit of increased academic and technical skill, the Josef Korbel School of International Studies offers two mid-career degrees. Students may also elect to participate in specialized dual and joint degree programs. These programs work in conjunction with other colleges and departments at the University of Denver, including the Daniels College of Business, the Sturm College of Law, the School of Communication, and the Graduate School of Social Work. Upon completion of study at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies , students are prepared for careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as academia.
The Josef Korbel School of International Studies is host to several centers and institutes as well as many vibrant student groups. Centers such as the Center for China-U.S. Cooperation, the Center for Teaching International Relations, the Institute for the Study of Israel in the Middle East, the Institute on Globalization and Security, the Center on Rights Development, and the Institute for Sino-American International Dialogue contribute to the well-rounded education provided by the Josef Korbel School of International Studies by arranging forums and other educational events. Students from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies have formed over fifteen student groups, including Students for Africa, the Peace Corps Community, Denver Women in International Security, and the Sustainable International Development Institute to name a few.
