China Town Hall
The CCUSC and the National Committee on US-China Relations co-sponsored the 2nd Annual China Town Hall on Monday, April 21, 2008 from 6-9pm. This was a national event that was held in more than 40 US cities. The National Committee president Steve Orlins moderated the first portion of the program through the webcast, which featured noted political analyst Norman Ornstein who discussed how China figures as an issue in the 2008 presidential and Congressional elections. Following the webcast, Nicholas Lardy, Senior Fellow of the Peterson Institute for International Economy in Washington DC and a leading specialist on China's economy, was at our Denver event and spoke on U.S. China Relations: The Economic Dimension.
Taiwan Observation Delegation
The CCUSC organized a delegation to observe Taiwan 's
Presidential Election on March 22nd. The delegation was led by CCUSC
Executive Director, Sam Zhao, and consisted of top US scholars and former
government officials, including Nat Bellocchi (former Chairman of AIT),
Douglas Paal (former Director of AIT), Mike Swaine (Carnegie Endowment
for International Peace), Jonathan Pollack (US Naval War College), Lynn
White (Princeton University), Richard Baum (UCLA), and Tai-Chun Kuo
(Hoover Institution). The delegation visited election research centers,
presidential candidate's campaign teams as well as polling stations.
The delegation held a roundtable in Taipei
on March 23rd to assess the implications of the Presidential Election. The
roundtable was open to the media and diplomatic corps in Taiwan. Below
