POLICY AND SYSTEMIC CHANGE

Homeless Initiative

Having a home is a human right:

- Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person…
- Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself/herself and his/her family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care, and necessary social services.

(Articles 3 & 25, Universal Declaration of Human Rights Adopted by the United States of America, 12.10.48)

Mission:

The Homeless Initiative is aimed at understanding the varied issues surrounding homelessness in Denver, and creating and implementing actionable steps to help with policy and systemic change. The Center On Rights Development believes that homelessness is a human rights issue, and that all people have a right to housing and the basic requirements for survival.

Under the direction of project coordinator, Tommaso Diegoli, and faculty advisor, Dr. Peter Van Arsdale, we engage ourselves in actionable research, policy formation, advocacy, and service to help promote a greater understanding of homelessness in Denver Metro, as well as effective and systemic change to better serve the needs and basic human rights of the homeless.

Opportunities:

The initiave welcomes volunteer participation and involves GSIS students in its research and outreach activities. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Tommaso Diegoli.

Amber Stohr and Tommaso Diegoli, along with the rest of the Homeless Initiative team, toured the St. Francis Center in Denver as part of an education program on issues of homelessness in Metro Denver and nationally. The St. Francis Center is a daytime shelter for the homeless and needy.
