ACADEMIC DEGREES
Peace Corps Fellows Program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers
The Josef Korbel School of International Studies is pleased to offer our Peace Corps Fellows Program. Founded in 2003, this program provides financial assistance for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) pursuing a 90 credit hour Masters of Arts degree at the University of Denver - Josef Korbel School of International Studies.
Upon acceptance into the Peace Corps Fellows Program, those RPCVs who have completed their 27 months of Peace Corps service will receive an 18 credit hour reduction (equivalent to $21,984 for the 2008-09 academic year if program completed in four quarters) in any of the six 90 credit hour Master of Arts (MA) programs. Fellows are also waived from the language proficiency requirement and from the internship requirement.
The remaining 72 credit hours can be completed within 4-5 quarters of full time study, or part time study is also available.
Field Practicum Requirement
In ongoing support of the Peace Corps third goal, "to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans," all Peace Corps Fellows are required to complete 150 hours of Field Practicum in the local Denver community which helps meet the needs of underserved U.S. communities.
A listing of potential field practicum sites can be found under the Downloads section below, however Fellows are also welcome to research additional sites that may be more applicable to their career aspirations. The GSIS Office of Career and Professional Development is available to assist in providing tools and resources for you to identify and select a site for the practicum upon matriculation at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. There is a minimum requirement of 150 hours and Fellows can complete these hours at their own pace, whether it be 150 hours over the summer, or three to four hours a week for four quarters, etc. Once you secure a site, you must submitted the Peace Corps Field Practicum Agreement Form (located on the document library of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies CareerWeb) to Amy Livingston, Associate Director, Career and Professional Development for approval. The Practicum, along with a supervisor’s evaluation and the option of submitting a 3-5 page final report OR submission of a PPT presentation or short video on CD describing the work experience, must be completed at the end of the practicum and submitted to Amy Livingston.
PLEASE NOTE: Students pursuing dual and joint degree programs or a mid-career are not eligible for the Fellows Program and do not receive the 18 credit hour reduction, language proficiency waiver, or internship requirement waiver.
