Randall Kuhn joins the GSIS faculty in September 2006 as Director of the Global Health Affairs Certificate Program. A demographer and sociologist by training, Randall's research focuses on the impact of kinship, socio-demographic change, migration, and community on health and well-being in disadvantaged communities throughout the world. His key projects presently focus on the impact of migration on health in migrant-sending communities in Bangladesh and Indonesia, and on the impact of the Indian Ocean tsunami on community health and well-being in Sri Lanka.
Randall's methodological expertise is in the collection and analysis of health and migration data, qualitative/quantitative methodology, and analysis of vital registration data. He spent two years living and conducting qualitative fieldwork in Bangladesh.
Randall has also been active in building international, interdisciplinary networks aimed at fostering research collaboration and sharing research capacity among institutions in the global North and South, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
His courses will focus on measurement, modeling, and key issues in global health affairs; demographic issues and methods; international migration; community and social networks, and statistical methods.
