COMMUNITIES & CENTERS
Student Government
The purpose of the Student Association is to represent students of the Graduate School of International Studies in all policy-making activities affecting student interests, encourage and promote human and intellectual interaction between students at GSIS, facilitate better communication between various cultural perspectives represented at GSIS, enhance a broader understanding of the international environment as it relates to the experiences of all students at GSIS, and nurture mature discussion of student concerns.
All GSIS graduate students are voting members of the Student Association. Two Councils of elected officers direct and coordinate the activities of the Association, but we encourage all GSIS students to participate in setting our agenda and voting on motions taken during Student Association meetings. Meeting times and calls for agenda items will be published in the Newsletter and circulated via the list-servs.

Conference Funding
Each year, since last, Student Government has designated a large sum of its resources to funding students who not only present at, but also those who only attend academic conferences related to International Studies.
Funding is contingent upon verfication of attending and/or presenting at a conference. Every student who applies for funding from Student Government will receive funding, the final amount is determined by the following:
Number of students applying for funding
Amount of funding available to Student Government
Whether you presented or only attended the conference
Whether and how much funding was received from GSIS
This money is given out at the end of the academic school year, with a dealine typically in late May.
