Financial aid is often available to doctoral students in the form of teaching and research assistantships, fellowships and loans. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for consideration of any type of financial aid. The FAFSA becomes available in January each year and should be filed by February 1, or as soon as possible thereafter, for best results. The FAFSA must be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Professors conducting research at GSSW employ a limited number of highly qualified doctoral students as research assistants. For the 2006-2007 academic year, a full-time graduate assistantship is a nine-month financial aid package including a stipend of $10,500 plus a full tuition waiver.

A limited number of Graduate Studies Doctoral Fellowships, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per year, are awarded to PhD students on the basis of merit. To be eligible, students must enroll in at least 8 credit hours per quarter.

Additional information about financial aid for doctoral students may be obtained from the PhD program director.
