GSSW Community Outreach

Erna and Brad Butler Institute for Families
The Erna and Brad Butler Institute for Families at the University of Denver seeks to enhance the well being of children, youth and families through research, education, training and consultation. An arm of the Graduate School of Social Work, The Butler Institute is a resource for building professionalism and discovering effective practices and policies for child and family programs. Over 15 faculty, professional staff and graduate students work on externally funded projects through The Butler Institute.

China Partnership Project
The China Partnership Project is a unique international opportunity to assist in the formal reestablishment of social work in China after it had been banned for many years. China is faced with increased social problems such as a growing elderly population, unemployment and juvenile delinquency. The Chinese government has established an undergraduate social work department and GSSW is assisting in the development of the new program.
The Bridge Project
The Bridge Project is an outreach program designed to break the cycle of poverty by providing educational and career opportunities to children and adults in Denver's public housing developments. Services provided by Bridge include tutoring, computer skills, mentoring and scholarships.

Institute of Gerontology
The Institute of Gerontology is a multi-disciplinary center of gerontological research, training, and community service. The Institute seeks to educate future gerontologists, provide current practitioners with state-of-the-art social service interventions, and assist health and social service agencies in the design and conduct of evaluation research. The Institute focuses on the psychosocial aspects of aging including the needs of frail elders and older workers and the positive integration of elders into society.

Institute for Human-Animal Connection
The Institute for Human-Animal Connection addresses the critically important relationships between animals and people. Multidisciplinary in focus, it is the first program of its kind within a human services academic setting.

Project WISE (Women's Initiative for Service and Empowerment)
Project WISE offers supportive services to metro Denver women who are making the transition from welfare to work and those maintaining employment. The Project's empowerment approach — counseling, support and education groups, and community advocacy — develop the personal strengths necessary to make the transition to work successful.
