Coverage Information & Cost of Services

All students enrolled at the University of Denver can use the services offered at the Health and Counseling Center. The cost of these services will vary based on insurance plans and payment of the Health and Counseling Fee. The cost of your visit will depend on the nature of your visit and any additional lab tests, medications and immunizations.

Undergraduate Coverage Options

All undergraduate students are required to pay the Health and Counseling Fee while enrolled at the University. Students must also choose to either enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan or choose to waive the plan with proof of alternate coverage.

  1. Health and Counseling Fee (HCF) + Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
    • Most University of Denver Health and Counseling Center (HCC) services free with HCF + SHIP (see chart below for details)
    • Low-cost co-pays for specialist visits
    • Pre-existing conditions not excluded
  2. Health and Counseling Fee (HCF) + Alternate Heath Insurance
    • Most HCC services discounted or free after a $10 co-pay. Students with alternate health insurance required to pay for services not covered by HCF at the time of visit. Invoices with proof of payment can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement, if applicable. (Deductibles and co-insurance may be required. Please be sure to check your plan's summary of benefits).

Graduate Coverage Options

  1. Health and Counseling Fee (HCF) + Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
    • Most University of Denver Health and Counseling Center (HCC) services free with HCF + SHIP (see chart below for details)
    • Low cost co-pays for specialist visits
    • Pre-existing conditions are not excluded
  2. Health and Counseling Fee (HCF) + Alternate Heath Insurance
    • Most HCC services discounted or free after a $10 co-pay
    • Students with alternate health insurance are required to pay for services not covered by HCF at the time of visit; invoices with proof of payment can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement, if applicable (deductibles and co-insurance may be required, please be sure to check your plan's summary of benefits)
  3. Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) only
    • Students who choose to participate in the SHIP only will be insured through United Healthcare Student Resources, the insurance company that contracts with DU
    • Students are required to pay for all services at the HCC at the time of visit
    • For each visit, students must submit an itemized invoice with proof of payment to United Healthcare Student Resources for reimbursement (deductible and co-insurance will apply, please refer to the summary of benefits listed in the SHIP brochure)
    • You must visit the HCC:
      • For primary care when it is open
      • When you are within 50 miles of campus
      • When your condition is not life or limb threatening
      • When you need a referral to a specialist
  4. Alternate Heath Insurance only
    • Students are required to pay for all services at the HCC at the time of visit
    • You may submit itemized invoices with proof of payment to your insurance company for reimbursement (deductible and co-insurance may apply, be sure to check your plan's summary of benefits)
